More than one-fourth of privately-insured, and one-third of Medicaid-enrolled women of childbearing age filled prescriptions for opioid-based (narcotic) painkillers between 2008 and 20121. OBGYNs provide a substantial amount of care to women of childbearing age. They contribute to opioid prescribing and are in the position to identify and offer treatment for women suffering from chronic pain or addiction.

Obstetrical providers, clinical staff, and healthcare organization leaders are invited to join this Advisor Live® conversation at 2 p.m. ET on May 20, 2015. The objectives of the webinar are:

  • To review the impact of opioid prescribing to women
  • To provide tools OBGYNs can use for screening for opioid abuse
  • To provide an approach to the pregnant woman using opioids for chronic pain
  • To review treatment options and outcomes of opioid dependence in pregnancy, including neonatal abstinence
