Advisor Live Webinar: Get in on the Ground Floor of CMS’ New Direct Contracting Model - LOI due Dec. 10!

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released the Request for Applications (RFA) for the Direct Contracting model on Nov. 25. The DC Model represents CMS’ next step in risk-sharing arrangements, building on lessons learned from the Medicare Shared Savings Program and the Next Generation ACO model and reflects the bipartisan focus on shifting risk from public payers to private entities. This is an opportunity to participate in a model that is a significant departure from Medicare fee-for-service and aims to give providers a more direct line between patients, care decisions and payment. Participants who have not typically been involved in Medicare fee-for-service models (e.g. insurers or other entities) are encouraged to apply, particularly those who serve dually-eligible beneficiaries or other patients with complex needs.

The RFA includes two participation tracks:
  • Professional: 50 percent of shared savings/shared losses on the total cost of care for aligned beneficiaries, with primary care capitation.
  • Global: 100 percent of shared savings/shared losses on the total cost of care for aligned beneficiaries, with primary care capitation or total capitation.
CMS has reopened the deadline to submit a non-binding Letter of Intent (LOI) through Tuesday, Dec. 10. Organizations considering DC that did not previously submit an LOI in August 2019 should submit a non-binding LOI to ensure they are able to continue evaluating participation in the model.
