Vancomycin Dosing: From Trough to AUC

The Infectious Disease Society of America (IDSA) Practice Guidelines are changing to recommend dosing vancomycin by measuring the area under the curve (AUC). AUC is a measure of the concentration of the antibiotic in the blood over time. This measure enables precise dosing of the drug. However, AUC is difficult to calculate manually. The manual method requires at least 2 “trough” drug level blood samples – increasing the impact to the patient and the cost of dosing the medication.

Watch our Advisor Live® presentation to learn more about how to comply with the new guidelines. Topics include:

  • How AUC standardizes pharmacokinetic dosing and minimizes adverse events.
  • Optimizing the cost of care through fewer lab sample draws.
  • How to integrate AUC dosing into TheraDoc® workflow.
