The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) continues to focus on moving to value-based, accountable care models and recently announced several proposed changes to its Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP) focused on attracting new ACOs and lowering barriers to participation. Additionally, the CMS Innovation Center recently released a new strategy to advance high-quality primary care and announced a new advanced primary care model – Making Care Primary (MCP). All of these reforms are aimed at achieving CMS’ goal of having every Medicare beneficiary in a care relationship accountable for quality and total cost of care by 2030.
