The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) recently announced a new voluntary model – the Accountable Care Organization (ACO) Primary Care Flex Model – which will test primary care capitation in the Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP). The goal of this new model is to increase the predictability of primary care revenue and shift payments away from fee-for-service, while building on the success of the MSSP. Both new and renewing MSSP ACOs that meet certain requirements will be eligible to apply.
