Premier member accountable care organizations (ACOs) earned record shared savings, providing their health systems with critical funds during COVID-19 when hospitals needed it most and supporting local community physicians as they struggled throughout the pandemic. Nationally, ACOs participating in the Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP) earned $2.3 billion in shared savings payments in 2020, an average of $6.6 million each, by innovating care delivery, improving quality and lowering costs.
